Liposuction in New York City and New Jersey – Locations in Manhattan, Staten Island, Brooklyn, and Shrewsbury

Liposuction is a popular cosmetic surgery procedure, and for good reason. Liposuction can help refine the shape of the body by removing excess fat deposits from the body. Though many individuals opt for liposuction treatment on the abdomen, waist, or hips, the buttocks, thighs, knees, upper arms, and even the face (such as the chin, cheeks, and neck) can all benefit from liposuction. Dr. Robert Vitolo uses minimally invasive techniques to remove fat from specific problem areas and improve body proportion and appearance. Our patients in the New York City, Staten Island, Brooklyn, and New Jersey areas appreciate Dr. Vitolo’s gentle liposuction technique and talent for enhancing the natural curves of the body.

The Procedure

Depending on the amount of work to be done, Dr. Vitolo and the patient may opt to use either local anesthesia or general anesthesia. Depending on the amount of fat that is to be removed and the scope of the surgery, the procedure can last from one to five hours. Dr. Vitolo is experienced in several liposuction techniques, including tumescent liposuction, the super-wet technique, and ultrasound-assisted liposuction or UAL. Together with the patient, Dr. Vitolo will determine which technique is best for minimal trauma to the tissues, a quick recovery period, and natural-looking results. To determine which option may be best for you, please contact our New York City offices in Staten Island, Manhattan, and Brooklyn, or our New Jersey office in Shrewsbury, for a liposuction consultation.

In the liposuction procedure, Dr. Vitolo makes a tiny incision in an inconspicuous place on the patient’s body. He then inserts a small tube called a cannula into the incision that breaks up the fat layer and suctions it out. Although liposuction is not a substitute for a healthy diet and exercise, it is an effective procedure for eliminating stubborn areas of fat that are unresponsive to typical weight loss methods.

Post-Op

Recovery from liposuction is brief relative to other cosmetic procedures. Patients may be provided with a compression garment to help speed healing. Although most patients are able to move and walk easily after liposuction, Dr. Vitolo advises patients to rest as much as possible in the days following the procedure in order to allow the body to fully, quickly heal. There may be some swelling that will gradually subside in several weeks.

Risks and Considerations

Though liposuction is often portrayed as a weight loss solution, in reality this is not the case. While liposuction can eliminate pockets of fat in targeted areas, it is more effective for body contouring than significant weight loss. If you have a large deposit of fat in your abdominal region, an abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) may be a better option for you.
