You might want to replace the volume and youthful fullness your lips used to have. Maybe you want more volume for plumper, poutier lips. Temporary or permanent lip augmentation can give you the full lips you want. Either method requires little to no downtime, and you can achieve natural-looking or dramatic results depending on your desired look.
Types of Lip Augmentation
If you want fuller lips, you have several options for achieving them:
Dermal fillers continue to grow in popularity. They work almost anywhere on the face to add or replace volume, smooth out lines and wrinkles, and restore a more youthful look. Dr. Vitolo uses hyaluronic acid fillers. This molecule, found in abundance in younger skin, attracts and retains moisture. It can add volume to the lips or can enhance the lip border. Correcting fine lines and wrinkles along the lip border improves definition and prevents lipstick “feathering.”
If you know you want lip augmentation and feel ready to commit to it, you might make a good candidate for silicone implants. While these can be removed if they ever cause problems, they can be considered permanent. These implants only require small incisions at the corners of the lips for insertion, and they will give you a soft-looking volume that feels natural.

Is There Any Downtime With a Lip Augmentation?
Dermal filler injections take fifteen to twenty minutes, and you can return to work or other activities right away. After having silicone lip implants, you can usually return to work within a few days. You may have some minor bruising after dermal filler injections, and after implants, you may have some soreness and swelling.
Both methods will give you full, plump lips. Dermal filler results become evident within a few days and last about six months. The results of your silicone implants will become visible a week or two after the procedure when the swelling has subsided.
Am I a Good Candidate for a Lip Augmentation?
Dermal fillers and silicone lip implants are both very safe and effective methods of lip augmentation. Most people make good candidates for dermal fillers, and hyaluronic acid fillers are one of the most widely used injectables. Silicone is the most popular material for cosmetic implants and can remain in the body for many years.
