What is External Ultrasonic Assisted Liposculpture (EUAL)?
Liposculpture is the use of liposuction not just to remove fat but to create a more contoured and aesthetically pleasing shape. Dr. Vitolo uses external ultrasonic assisted liposculpture (EUAL), which uses ultrasound energy to partially liquify the fat without harming the skin. In this semi-liquid state, the fat becomes easier to remove. Dr. Vitolo can use smaller instruments and more gentle suction, meaning you experience less bruising and soreness.
How Does External Ultrasonic Assisted Liposculpture Work?
To perform EUAL, Dr. Vitolo will first inject the area with a combination of saline and anesthetic. He then uses ultrasound energy to pass through the skin and liquify the targeted fat cells. The fat becomes much easier to remove. Instead of manually breaking up the fat with a cannula, which causes bruising and swelling, EUAL allows the fat to be easily removed with minimal tissue trauma. Because EUAL works more gently and with less damage than traditional liposuction, you recover more quickly and experience much less bruising and swelling.
How is EUAL Different From Liposuction?
During standard liposuction, a larger cannula is inserted and used to probe and break apart the layers of fat targeted for removal. This layer of fat also contains blood vessels that liposuction can injure, resulting in bruising and swelling. Many people need a week or more before they can resume normal activities or go back to work after liposuction.
External ultrasound assisted liposculpture uses painless ultrasound energy to make fat removal easier and less traumatic. The ultrasound energy disrupts fat cells without harming skin, blood vessels, or other tissue, making the procedure more comfortable and allowing for a much faster recovery time. After EUAL, you will feel less soreness and may be back to work within a few days.
What is Recovery Like From External Ultrasonic Assisted Liposculpture?
After surgery, you will have bandages and a compression garment applied to maintain your new sculpted shape while it heals. The bandages also help reduce bruising. Your bandages may come off within a few days, and you can return to work within two to three days. You may have no visible bruising at all, and you will experience some minor soreness for a day or two, but much less than with standard liposuction.
